Thank you for your interest in Southshire Roller Derby’s Paint & Sip Fundraisers. We’re excited about an event that helps bring a fun, cooperative, social experience to our community without the bumps and bruises while helping us to continue to deliver roller sports training and competition to Bennington County and its neighbors.

Paint & Sip parties allow you to enjoy a professionally lead painting class in a fun, positively-charge environment while enjoying a few drinks. Our events are held at places where ticket holders are welcome to bring the beverage of their choice. Alcoholic beverages are allowed and even encouraged if you’d enjoy that! Feel free to bring your favorite fine wine, a 6-pack of beer, or your cooler of home-made margaritas. Please have plans for safe transport home and/or a designated driver if you plan to imbibe. You are not required to consume alcohol! Many people have a great time with a good lemonade, tea, or spring water.

We will provide hot water, tea bags, and coffee and some light snacks. If you want specific food or beverage, you are welcome to bring your own to the event.  We ask that people not bring raw nuts or balloons to the event.

All classes are paid in advance. Tickets are not refundable, but you may give or sell your ticket to anyone you want.

People over 13 years of age and any gender are welcome to participate (just like our roller derby league), but anyone under 21 years of age found consuming alcohol or adult serving alcohol to someone under 21 years of age will leave and will not have their money refunded.  We find that the majority of attendees at events like this are at least 25 years of age or older.

We are not in the business of Paint & Sip parties, but we are in the business of empowerment of people in our community and we have a number of very talented people in our organization. It takes a village to make a modern sporting endeavor work and, since most of our adult members are female, we’re hosting a number of Paint & Sip parties each year to help defray the cost of our space. We’re excited to partner with Rhonda Ratray and The Left Bank because they’re our neighbor here in North Bennington and they have a similar mission to ours.

We will provide you all the supplies to participate in the painting event. Included in the supplies:

  • Canvas – which you take home at the end of the event
  • Paint – we use acrylic paint for easy use and cleanup
  • Brushes and cleaning receptacles
  • An apron to partially protect your clothing (but it may not fully protect your clothing)
  • Easels, tables, chairs, and all the tools you’ll need to paint
  • An expert instructor to lead you in a paint design. You do NOT need to follow the design led by the instructor. Attendees are welcome to paint to their own inspiration and use the time and social energy to invest in their masterpiece.

Instruction starts at 7pm. Our league members will likely be at the space around 6pm to begin setup. We ask for folks to arrive around 6:30pm to select seating.

The instruction will last for about 2 hours. For June 9, 2018, this will be our first event so we can’t be sure that it won’t take 3 hours. We respectfully ask that people finish up their work no later than 45 minutes after the official instruction has ended.

You don’t need to know a single thing about painting prior to showing up. Our instructor will talk you through everything you need to know, from how to mix paint colors to what sort of brush strokes to use. Want to customize your painting? They’ll help you with that, too.

The painting space at Left Bank is small and intimate allowing our instructor’s voice to be heard over music and chatter.
