First Orientation Success

10 Skaters Attend Southshires First Orientation
We held our first orientation at the Community College of Vermont tonight and by all measures it was a great success.

Hosted by co-founders Amy “Bitches Bruze” Moore and Liza “Don’t Care Bear” Goldberg with help from Mark “Will Jettison” Moore, eight new skaters showed up eager to get involved, skate, and bring flat track roller derby to Bennington, Vermont.

It was exciting to meet everyone and all they want to bring to the league from getting sponsors to really growing the membership. We also received messages from people who were unable to attend but also interested in joining. Looks like our first practices will have a good number of skaters!

We covered topics like gear – where to buy it, what you need, what’s nice to have – and the basics of the game. As new members join our league we will continue to have orientations like this.

Once we have our practice location prepared for safe skating, we’ll have more orientations. At the moment we are growing and have open enrollment with no tryouts. Anyone over the age of 18, male or female, who would like to play or officiate roller derby is welcome to join. We’ll even train you how to skate before we teach you roller derby skills.

Thanks to Jessica, Kelsey, Lindsay, Donna, Megan, Renee, Autumn, and Rita for coming out and helping to get Southshire Roller Derby rolling.
